106 - Ultraspeed 6 - New Gods

I started this mix years ago. I decided to try out MixMeister 7, just to see if it was worth upgrading to. It wasn’t. I found it strangely harder to use than my current version (5), and it contained a lot of obtrusive licensing software that seemed to struggle to work with Windows 10. So that was kind of an aborted project.

But I had the start of this mix, and I liked it, but my usual approach to Ultraspeed mixes – drag a bunch of music into the mix and sort it out as I go, seeing what I like and what I don’t – didn’t really work. And I lost enthusiasm for it, moved onto other mixes like Deep In The Beat and Broad Horizons, and left this one.

Eventually, in 2022, I came back to it – if for no other reason than I had started it and I hate gaps in the sequence. I added more psy-trance tracks around the favourite I’d chucked in originally, to make it fit more. I changed key, from B to E. I kept searching and trying tracks out.

And eventually I ended up with something I really like.

In the process I found some really beautiful blends. I always hope for those moments, where I find two tracks that happen to be in the same key and blend so well together you can be kind of lost in the in-between mix of the two. When that happens I’ll listen to it a couple of times just to enjoy that feeling of having discovered something joyous.

So here’s the new gods that we can worship, made out of old tracks.
